Shooting Your Own Product Photos | Tips from a Pro
Let’s face it, in the ecommerce world we don’t always have time to book with a pro to get our products shot so we are faced to act as the photographer (as well as the rest of the hat as an entrepreneur), so why not, right?
If you find yourself in the role of a photographer (without the experience) consider these tips from Ashley, Owner of Simply Curate & Co.
Newer model phone for higher resolution: Better focus & camera functions
White background (2-3 pieces of foam core or Bristol board. Or any other background that suits style/brand)
Natural light (or simple lighting equipment/ring light)
Cell phone Tripod & remote (example here) less chance of shake/blurry photos
Set up white foam surface piece & background (optional : use Bristol board to curve backdrop from top to bottom surface to remove any surface and backdrop connecting lines)
Set up foam core (as reflector) on LH side if window is on RH side. Or vice versa. (This will fill shadows)
Bright, indirect light is best
Tap screen for AF (locked) focus on product
Slide up to Bring up exposure a little if required
Use remote to snap photo
(Don’t zoom, you’ll loose quality, no flash)
Edit in a cell phone app like Lightroom or similar.
