Watch Out For These Deadly Website Mistakes
With all the different online + social media outlets out there it can feel as though you are supposed to try and be engaged and active on each one of them to secure your online presence, well guess what, you don’t! And if you really want to know where the number one place your effort should go, well it’s your website.
So many of us small business owners get drawn into the face paced, free, “easier” outlets like Instagram and yes, there are hundreds of reasons why you should be active on social media but if you don’t have a fantastic website your efforts won’t give you the ROI you are ultimately looking for.
So before you read all those tips out there on how to master social media let’s be sure you aren’t committing any of these website sins.
BAD PHOTOGRAPHY
This one is obvious but unfortunately very common. Ensuring you have quality images that are true to your brand are essential. Now this doesn’t just speak to the quality of the image but the styled subject and composition as well. If you are serious about driving your brand invest in a marking consultant who knows what works… and what doesn’t. And yes, stock photography is absolutely ok!
BROKEN LINKS + PAGES THAT AREN’T SET UP
There is nothing worse than popping on a site to find broken links, expired information, and pages still under construction. The message this sends to the user is that your work is unpolished, lacks detail and things will be left incomplete should they partner with you. Everything you do leaves an impact, whether it’s one that’s intentional or not.
WHEN YOUR SITE ISN’T MOBILE FRIENDLY
Users have 2 options, desktop or mobile, and stats are telling us that mobile is more popular so ensuring your site is mobile friendly is priority.
PAGES THAT ARE TOO BUSY
It’s imperative when designing your site you keep the customer top of mind. Remember, they likely don’t know your site like you do and can’t navigate it as well because they didn’t design it. Insuring it is clear, concise and built specifically for them will help create a positive user experience.
TOO MANY FONTS OR TOO FEW FONTS
My recommendation is using the same 3 fonts throughout all your marketing. One for headers, one for sub headers, one for paragraphs.
NOT INCLUDING NEXT STEPS & CALL TO ACTION
At the end of the day you are trying to drive sales so missing out on the opportunity for someone to continue on your site and taking some type of next step is crucial.
